So, I had a friend ask me if I thought that the main character in Coyote Ugly, Piper Perabo, had used her real name. Interesting question. Anyone know the answer? The answer is Yes. Her birth given name is Piper Lisa Perabo. So, I started wondering, what other celebrities kept their real names, and which ones changed them? Go ahead and play a little game and guess yes or no for each name before you read the answer....
What about our classic favorites?
Bing Crosby.....No. His given name is Harry Lillis Crosby. He was given the nickname Bingo at the age of 6, and it got shortened and stuck
Bob Hope.....No. Leslie Townes Hope. He changed his name because he wanted something more friendly
Marlon Brando.....Yes. The only difference is he was a Jr.
Cary Grant......No. This one is a stretch, completely made up. Archibald Alexander Leach
Boris Karloff.....No. William Henry Pratt.
Greta Garbo.....No. Greta Gustafson.
Yul Brenner....No. Taidje Kahn, Jr.
Tom Jones....Mostly. Thomas Jones Woodward.
Vivian Leigh.....No. Vivian Mary Hartley
Jimmy Stewart.......Yes! James Maitland Stewart
Gerald Ford......Obviously one of our presidents would not have been born under a different name! Wrong! He was born Leslie Lynch King, Jr. His birth father was terribly abusive and his parents separated when he was 16 days old. When his mother remarried, they changed his name to Gerald Rudolff Ford, Jr., although he was never legally adopted. He legally changed his name in 1935.
John Wayne.......No. Marion Michael Morrison.
It seems that most all of our stars of yesterday changed their names.
And what about those who's names are so wild they can't be real?
Picabo Street........Yes. She was actually called "little girl" until the age of 2. Her parents wanted her to be old enough to choose her own name. However, "Little Girl" is not a name that the passport office will approve, so they named her after a nearby town. At age 4 she was given the option to rename herself, but stuck with Picabo.
Whoopi Goldberg......No. Caryn Elaine Johnson.
Charo......No. Her real name is Maria Rosaria Pilar Martinez Molina Baeza. Charo is not even in that list of names!
Chord Overstreet........Yes. This Glee member got his name because he is the 3rd born and there are 3 notes in a chord.
Ozzy Osbourne..... No. John Michael Osbourne.
Shakira.......Yes. Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll.
Ringo Starr.......No. Richard Starkey.
Portia de Rossi......No. Amanda Lee Rodgers
And our favorites?
Tom Cruise......Mostly. His birth name is Tom Cruise Mapother, IV.
Angelina Jolie......Again, mostly. We all know her famous father is John Voight, so her given name is Angelina Jolie Voight.
Drew Barrymore.....Yes. Drew Blythe Barrymore to be exact. And again we all know her to be the granddaughter of the famous John Barrymore, however his birth name was John Blythe.
Morgan Freeman.....Yes. Morgan Porterfield Freeman, Jr.
Bruce Willis.....Yes. Technically Walter Bruce Willis. I wonder what would have happened if he went by Walter.
Chuck Norris.....No. Carlos Ray Norris.
Jodie Foster.......Not technically. Her birth name is Alicia Christian Foster. Jodie is a nickname given to her by her siblings.
Tina Turner........No. Anna Mae Bullock.
Demi Moore.....No. Demetria Gene Guynes.
Sandra Bullock.....Yes.
Cameron Diaz.......Yes. I always wondered where the Diaz came from. Her father was Cuban-American.
Johnny Depp.....Yes. John Christopher Depp, II.
Elton John.....No. Reginald Kenneth Dwight.
Tom Hanks.......Yes.

Everything you wanted to know about...Foreign Accent Syndrome
There was a story on yahoo news that caught my eye. A woman has a dental procedure and wakes up with an English or Irish accent. She is found to have "foreign accent syndrome". Never heard of foreign accent syndrome? Me neither!!
There have been about 10 case worldwide of this syndrome. One English woman woke up to find herself with a Jamaican accent, which sometimes switched to French Canadian, Italian, or Slovic. Another woman developed a Chinese accent. And another Croatian woman awoke from a coma unable to speak Croatian, but speaking fluent German. I watched several videos of these people and their accents. Bizarre!! Now, the person may speak with a different accent, but do not change the words they say. So, the American woman will not say that she needs to go to the loo, and the English woman will not say "Irie". They continue to say the words they would normally say, just differently.
So what is this, really? Well, the person does not really develop a foreign accent. What happens, is there is a stroke or some type of damage to the language center of the brain. This causes distortion of the person's speech. This distortion causes them to pronounce words differently. It makes they change the length of their vowels and change their jaw shape and movements when speaking. In distorting their language, it makes them sound different, and we must label it as a British accent or a Jamaican accent, when really it is not. This explains why the English woman would have so many different interpretations of her accent; some say Jamaican, some say French Canadian. The truth is, no one knows what it is!
Now the case of the Croatian girl that awoke speaking fluent German is slightly different. What is odd about this? Well, that she can't speak Croatian anymore. What is not so odd? She had learned German in school. She possibly suffered damage to her language center, coupled with damage to her memory center. Now, it is not uncommon for people with strokes to be unable to speak. She could still understand her parents when they spoke to her in Croatian, but was unable to respond. Since she had the German filed away in her brain, and it couldn't process the Croatian, German is what came out. Now, her "fluent German" was probably not perfect. But to her Croatian speaking parents and doctors, it sounded perfect. Now, don't get me wrong, it was still good, but I could probably hold up a decent conversation in French if I could remember everything I learned in High School.
So, there you have it. Something you didn't know about Foreign accent syndrome!

Everything you wanted to know about.....ME!!
Well, I thought that for my first post, I would share some things about myself.
I live in Papillion, Nebraska. I am a proud mama of 2 adorable kids, 1 girl and 1 boy. I have been married to my husband for almost 6 years. We met in high school while working at Omaha Steaks. I graduated from college at Creighton University with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. I started my nursing career at the University of Nebraska Medical Center on the transplant floor. We did all liver, pancreas, kidney and small bowel transplants. I loved this job so much!! When I had my daughter, I couldn't do a job that I had to be gone for 12 hours straight anymore, so I started working at a home infusion company. I have since gotten a job doing oncology case management. The best part about this job? I get to work from HOME!!! I love being able to pop downstairs and see my kiddies during the day. I still work for the infusion company on the side to get in my face-to-face patient contact fix. My husband is an electrician. Needless to say, we are busy, busy, busy around here! Here is a picture of my family:
Things I love:
Dr. Pepper- I am far beyond Dr. Pepper's best customer!
Food- I love to cook, make my own barbecue sauce and seasoned butter, but don't underestimate my equal love for fast food or restaurants (in general any good I don't have to cook)! My favorite part of any meal is dessert...chocolate on chocolate preferably....mmmm
Stupid Movies: Anchorman, Zoolander, you name it!!
Other movies: I also have some very classic favorites, Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Tombstone and the Shawshank Redemption are among my favorites. And the best part is, I can recite almost all of these movies word for word....don't even need to watch them!
Music: I come from a family with a very broad music library. We love all kinds of music.
Hobbies: I like to sew and have recently started screen printing. I am a decent sewer, not great, but I try.
College Football: Specifically Husker football. I usually watch every Big 12 game, but it looks like this year, I will have to become adjusted to Big 10 games....
Things I hate:
Reality shows- I still give in to a few, the Biggest Loser, and recently The Voice, but I usually try to avoid watching them (mostly because if I do, no matter how bad the show, I become ridiculously addicted and can't stop watching them)
My local news trying to do heavy investigative reporting and "break" huge stories.
Meatloaf, grape jelly and Frito's/corn nuts- I don't know why, just can't even stand the smell of them.
One cake that I do not like: German Chocolate
So there is a little about me, I look forward to you joining me for curiosity quests!
